Botswana Caracal Safari

Day 1: Maun – Deception Valley (Deception Valley Private Reserve (D) (160km)

Your safari commences in Maun, where your guide will greet you at Maun Airport at 14:30. From there, you’ll journey 160km to the Deception Valley Private Reserve, situated on the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Upon arrival, a comprehensive safari briefing awaits you. The night will be spent in a cozy and comfortable camp.

Day 2: Deception Valley (B, L, D)

Immerse yourself in the thrill of game drives and partake in a nature walk guided by a local San tracker. As they share their profound bush wisdom, you’ll gain a glimpse into their distinctive and captivating culture. The game drives will unveil the captivating beauty of this area, inhabited by a diverse array of desert-adapted wildlife such as oryx, as well as predators like lions, hyenas, and cheetahs. Indulge in the boundless open spaces, crystal-clear night skies, and unspoiled beauty that defines the landscape.

Day 3: Deception Valley – Boteti River Camp (B, L, D) (120km)

Rise with the sun for a brief morning game drive before making your way to the Makgadikgadi area. Your overnight stay awaits at a camp situated on the periphery of the Makgadikgadi National Park, offering picturesque views of the Boteti River in Khumaga village. After arriving at the camp for lunch, indulge in a short siesta before embarking on an afternoon game drive along the scenic Boteti River.

Day 4-6: Boteti River Camp – Khwai (Day 1 – B, D, Day 2 – B, L, D) (340km)

Following breakfast, your journey heads west, with a stopover in Maun for lunch (at your own expense) at a local restaurant. Continuing towards Khwai, your drive traverses beautiful wildlife areas, providing opportunities for game viewing along the way. Optionally, you can enhance your adventure with a helicopter transfer to Khwai in the afternoon (45 minutes, rate to be advised by your guide/agent – booking and payment in USD to be arranged during the safari). Your destination is the Khwai River area, situated on the border of the Moremi Game Reserve, renowned as one of Botswana’s premier wilderness regions. Over the next three days, you’ll immerse yourself in the search for the diverse wildlife and birds that call this area home, all while taking in the captivating sounds and beauty of the surroundings. Game drives will explore the Khwai River vicinity (North-east Moremi / Khwai Concession), and there’s also an opportunity for a mokoro excursion (dugout canoe) on a tributary of the Khwai River. Your mokoro poler/guide will reveal hidden secrets of this water system. Accommodations for this leg of the journey are provided at Khwai Guesthouse in the Khwai Village.

Day 7-8: Khwai – Chobe (B, L, D) (200km)

The safari then ventures northward towards a rustic camp located at the periphery of Chobe National Park, offering a two-night stay to explore the park’s northern expanses. This day promises a full day of activity as you embark on an extensive game drive through the Savuti area of Chobe National Park, progressing towards the Chobe flood plains. A picnic lunch break en-route will be followed by your arrival at the lodge in the late afternoon. Your time will be immersed in the northern reaches of Chobe, a park teeming with wildlife due to the consistent water supply from the Chobe River throughout the year. Witness large herds of elephants and buffalo, a common sight in this region. The high concentration of herbivores also attracts predators, including lions and leopards. During your stay at Chobe Elephant Camp, engage in game drives and a boat cruise within Chobe National Park, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of the diverse ecosystems and abundant wildlife in the area.

Day 9: Chobe – Vic Falls (B) (160km) Border Crossing into Zimbabwe

Today’s adventure leads you to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where you’ll enjoy a two-night stay at a cozy lodge. Your guide will accompany you to the Kazungula border, where you’ll meet the transfer vehicle to take you to your lodge in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (Visa required). The lodge team will be on hand to help organize activities of your choosing, which you can relish during your stay (expenses at your discretion). The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure—explore the magnificent falls or indulge in some curio shopping. Dinner is at your own expense, offering the flexibility to savour the culinary delights of your choice.

Day 10: Vic Falls (B)

The lodge features an activities desk where you can arrange bookings for daily excursions to explore Victoria Falls town. Available activities in Victoria Falls encompass White Water Rafting down the Zambezi Gorge, Canoeing on the upper Zambezi, and Helicopter Flights over the Victoria Falls.
