The safari commences in Maun, where your guide will meet you at Maun Airport at 14:30. Departing from Maun, your journey takes you to Mababe. The first night in Mababe sets the tone for the adventure to come. Arriving at camp just in time for sunset, you'll immerse yourself in the beauty and sounds of this unique wilderness area.
Positioned perfectly between the southern section of Chobe National Park and the Khwai and Moremi wildlife areas, the environment showcases a blend of diverse habitats. A winding river channel cuts through the savannah, attracting a variety of animals that gather to drink during the dry season and revel in the abundant grasses after the rains. Acacia woodland provides cooling shade, with large herds of elephants, buffalo, and other general game taking advantage of it.
Early morning and afternoon game drives offer optimal opportunities to witness the raw nature of the surroundings. A night drive introduces a different facet of the safari, focusing on wildlife that thrives in darkness. On the third day, you'll have the chance to indulge in a 30-minute scenic helicopter flight with no windows or doors, providing breathtaking views from above. The rate will be determined by your guide/agent. This experience must be booked before the safari commences, and payment is accepted in USD cash only. The flight over the Okavango Delta offers an eagle’s eye perspective, with the possibility of spotting large game animals such as elephants, giraffes, and hippos.
The Mababe private concession, entrusted to the local community as caretakers of this pristine wilderness, has controls in place to limit visitor numbers, ensuring a truly special and exclusive experience for you.
Day 4-6: Mababe – Moremi (Premium Camping) (B, L, D) (90km)
Following breakfast, embark on a picturesque drive to the Khwai mokoro station. Delight in the tranquillity of the mesmerizing Okavango Delta from a mokoro (fiberglass canoe), skilfully guided by your poler through the enchanting channels of the inland Delta water system. The adventure unfolds as you traverse the Moremi Game Reserve, pausing for a picnic lunch along the way. A leisurely game drive brings you to your exclusive campsite in the late afternoon, where the next three nights will be spent.
In this harmonious junction of land and water, witness the creation of a remarkably captivating landscape featuring waterways, lagoons, pans, floodplains, riverine forests, and woodlands. The extraordinary diversity of habitats sets the stage for remarkable game viewing and birdwatching opportunities. Daily game drives will reveal nature's best-kept secrets as you explore the rich tapestry of this unique environment.
Day 7-8: Moremi – Private Delta island (Expedition Tented Camp) (B, L, D) (30km)
Today, you have the opportunity to explore a seldom-visited section of Moremi Game Reserve by boating to a secluded island. This hidden gem is nestled within the deep water channels of the Okavango Delta, creating a serene haven. Positioned perfectly between Moremi's game-rich savannah and the floodplains of the Okavango Delta, this area boasts unspoiled scenic beauty.
Spend two days unravelling the secrets of this island and its surrounding channels by boat, while indulging in the splendour of Africa's perfect sunset reflected off the water. Luxuriate in comfort during your two-night stay in Meru-style en-suite tents, fully immersing yourself in the tranquillity of this remote, wild, and untouched environment.
Day 9: Private Delta Island – Maun (B) (150km)
On the morning of day 9, you'll depart from the island by boat, setting course for Maun. Upon reaching the boat station, you'll seamlessly transition to the safari vehicle, parked and prepared for your journey. As you drive out, the game drive serves as another opportunity to spot the more elusive animals not yet encountered. Continuing on, you'll arrive in Maun at approximately 12:00.
Your guide will either drop you off at Maun Airport or your pre-booked lodge. Alternatively, you have the option to fly out to Maun; however, this must be arranged before the safari begins, with the rate to be advised by your agent.
